Jewel
Love is like
That beautiful jewel
In the store I pass by
Daily.
I gathered the nerve
One Thursday
To ask how much it cost.
I'd like it to be mine
Not so that I might show it off
But that I might cherish it
Study its many facets
Share it with those most dear to me
And pass it on
As a legacy
To the next generation.
The salesman behind the counter
Was somewhat aloof
Looking down upon my humble attire
Trying their hardest to be nice
They informed me of the price
Then abruptly went to assist
Paying customers...
Love is like
That beautiful jewel
In the store I pass by
Daily.
These days I try to ignore how it catches the light
I pass by quickly, so as not to admire
The one thing
That I adore so highly
But could never call my own
