Lighthouse

I don't need a lamp
Because I have a light that radiates from within me...
I don't need a brick
An easily replaceable carbon copy...
I don't need a stair
An aide to be stepped on, on my way to the top...
I don't need a door
Sometimes wide open, other times shut off...
And I don't need any glass
Protective but ultimately weak...
If I am to stand, and assist and guide
A beacon of hope in an unsteady tide
I need a rock...
A solid, dependable structure that sustains without my support
A bulwark against the restless uncertainties
A place to support myself upon...
And to keep the ships safe
And assure their safe arrival at the bay...
This noble rock needs me too
